Generations remember Breakfast with Santa in the Chintz Room on the fifth floor of Lazarus in Columbus, Ohio. Usually followed by a shopping trip to the Secret Santa Shop. The Chintz Room has recently reopened in the former Lazarus Building, 121 S. High Street.
Still have some of the favorites on the menu. I am going to check this out next week…excited to go back in time.
EASY Christmas morning…We have always had the eggs, cheese, bread, and sausage souffle for Christmas morning breakfast. Prepare the day before, refrigerate overnight and in the oven while opening gifts.
This may be taking over…French Toast Strata!
1 1/2 c low fat buttermilk
1/4 c. maple syrup
1 t. vanilla extract
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
1 French baguette loaf, cut into 1/2 cubes
1/4 c. brown sugar
Cut baguette into 1/2 inch cubes and spread along the bottom of a prepared 9×13 inch casserole dish.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well and pour over bread.
Cover with plastic wrap and press down lightly, so the bread absorbs the egg mixture. Refrigerate over night.
Bake for 45 minutes or until eggs are set.
When removed from oven, sprinkle with brown sugar and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
Tastes similar to Coast Toast…San Diego style.
